Posted on April 13, 2014 by Gina Cabrera | 8 Comments

Whoa! I can't believe we're on Sketch #5! I am challenged every time I create a new layout/sketch -love stretching that creative muscle. If you're following along pleeeease link me up to your pages in the comments. :)

The Challenge

The Scrap Your Stash Challenge is a twice a month challenge aimed at helping you complete two (2) layouts per month with a total of twenty-two (22) by the end of the year at the same time using your DDE stash. New sketches will be posted on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month. Your layouts should be completed and uploaded before a new sketch is posted. Share your finished pages by uploading them to for a chance to win a $10 DDE gift certificate. A random gift certificate winner will be chosen from the pool for each sketch. If you don't have a flickr account you can post a link to your page in the comments section. Remember, this is a "use your DDE stash" challenge so a majority of your pages should have DDE products. Sketches do not have to be followed to a "T". You can be as creative as you wish by turning a sketch sideways, adding lots of embellishments or taking the minimalist route -they are just a starting point. So, what say you? Are you up for round 5? Let's do this!

The Details

• Use Sketch #5 as inspiration to create a layout using Digital Design Essentials products.

• Upload your page to or post a link to your layout in the comments by Saturday, April 26th for a chance to win a $10 DDE gift certificate.

My Take

This is a super fun sketch to work with. This is my then 13 year old son (I know, right) after his 8th grade Valentine's Day dance. It's so funny, the top left photo was suppose to be a full length shot but our dog photo bombed so you see my son looking down. In the original photo it's my son and our dog -I cropped out our dog (sorry Jake) and I think it turned out pretty good. I clipped papers to the pie charts -I believe photos would look awesome, too. I also use the freebie watercolor brush on the very top white patterned paper, makes it look totally different. I think you can get really creative with this sketch. Can't wait to see your pages.

Scrap Your DDE Stash | Sketch 2

Posted on February 15, 2014 by Gina Cabrera | 8 Comments

I am really enjoying the Scrap Your Stash Challenge because it is holding me accountable and I am finally getting some scrapping done. This week I got my creative juices flowing and scrapped a fun page featuring my son's Instagram photos. Is that even allowed? ;) I had so much fun with the bright colors and graphic patterns that I ended up creating a whole new collection. The new Real Life Collection was totally inspired by this weeks challenge and is now available in the shop. I am enjoying seeing all of your pages in the and am hoping you are having as much fun scrapping and getting pages done. :)

My Take

I used the honeycomb shapes to clip my son's small Instagram photos and bits of patterned paper. The pointers worked great as a timeline to highlight dates, interests and special events. Can't wait to see your pages.

Scrap Your DDE Stash | Sketch 1

Posted on February 08, 2014 by Gina Cabrera | 9 Comments

I use to scrap all the time when I first started digital scrapbooking -loved it! New photos would inspire me and sketches and online crops would motivate me to get my pages done. I haven't scrapped nearly as much as I use to since I became a designer and I truly miss it. I finished a page this past week and while I was in the middle of scrapping I started getting those butterflies in my stomach -you know, when it all starts comes together. When what you envisioned in your mind and felt in your heart materializes on your page. It felt great and I am ready to get more pages done this year and thought there may be some of you who would like to join me. I'd love to get at least two (2) pages done a month with a total of twenty-two (22) by the end of the year. Remembering how sketches were my motivation in the past prompted me to start creating a few and sharing them with everyone. I like sketches because they are just a starting point and do not need to be followed to a "T". For instance, when I created my "I Love These Boys" layout following the sketch, I turned the whole first row of layers into one large photo. You can be as creative as you want by turning a sketch sideways, adding lots of embellishments or taking the minimalist route. It's all up to you and that's the beauty of it. Sketches are also a great way to use what you already have stashed on your hard drive -if you're here I know your HD is full. You have invested in my products (and I am very grateful) over the years to help document your memories and now it's time to start using your DDE stash and getting more pages completed. So, what say you? Are you up for it? Let's do this!

I modified the first row of layers and made them into one large photo and didn't use the journaling lines -went freestyle. Can't wait to see your pages.
